david jones prayer

almighty & e'lasting God
heaven is your throne
earth is your footstool
holy and reverent is your name

you are worshipped
in the company of the mighty angels and saints on high
and in the
assembly of your people here on earth
how thankful we are for
your grace that has made us a part of that assembly, that we may
lift our praise to you this morning
god of abraham isaac and Jacob
The God of
moses and the prophets the God who has finally and
fully revealed Yourself in our Lord, jc, our blessed mediator,

thru whom we are bold to approach unto you

forgive us our sins, and grant us your grace that we may serve you ever more
fully

we live in dangerous times and we pray

pacification of iraq for the
end of genocide in darfur
we pray that our blessed mediator who sits at your right hand may so
exercise
the kingdom of his power in all the world as may best induce to these ends:
that the gospel may go forth with freedom and with power and that your
people may be gathered to you from the ends of the earth
equip us, we pray, to serve you in our generation

what it means to be apostolic church

(85) (in the marketing the church approach/aka church exclusively as PLACE) The clergy are the church’s sales representatives, religious doctrines (and programs? RP adds) its products, and evangelization practices its marketing techniques.

Jurgen Moltmann: “The historical church must be called ‘apostolic’ in a double sense: its gospel and its doctrine are founded on the testimony of the first apostles, the eyewitnesses of the risen Christ, and it exists  in the carrying out of the apostolic proclamation, the missionary charge.  The expression ‘apostolic’ therefore denotes both the church’s foundation and its commission.”  In a recent study of the understanding of the word APOSTOLIC within the early church, Robert Scudieri concludes the same: “The church is apostolic not just because it represents the apostles’ teaching, but because it re-presents Christ.”   (83)

A global church now recognizes that the church of any place bears missional calling and responsibility for its own place as well as for distant places.  The church of every place is a mission-sending church, and the place of every church is a mission-receiving place.

Unlike the previous notion of the church as an entity located in a facility or in an institutional organization and its activities, the church is being reconceived as a community, a gathered people, brought together by a common calling and vocation to be a sent people.  (81)

Idols & Reformation Day Repentance

Wednesday, September 29, 2004

heading

"In the chief good there must be delectability;
it must have something that is delicious and sweet: and where can we suck those pure essential comforts, which ravish us with delight, but in God? In God's character there is a certain sweetness which fascinates or rather enraptures the soul." Thomas Watson

Idol Teaching Blows Open Categories

Normally, only the guy struggling with porn has an opportunity to repent and believe in his relationship to the internet...
but when idols are introduced the normal categories for sin get introduced. How?

Often the same thing that motivates one man to gaze on porn motivates a different person to "zone out" in an online game, or get the unnecessary details of some news event though lots of searching and reading. Let's not even mention chatrooms dedicated to music and Gator football! If sin is now trying to find life (comfort/excitement/et al) through anything but Jesus and His righteousness, everyman now has the sweet opportunity to repent of trusting/whoring elsewhere and return into the arms of Jesus. The gospel for the porn-free!
